#segdehabbatical

August 20, 2015, 8:20 am

Call me crazy. I quit what was in many ways a dream job at The Cupertino Fruit Company to take 6 months off to recharge, reset, and reassess what’s next. I’m 2 months in. Let’s take stock of how it’s going, shall we?

Turning it off.

June 21, 2012, 12:12 pm

I’ve decided social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Foursquare, etc.) isn’t contributing anything meaningful to my life and may, in fact, be hurting my life in significant ways. So, I’m turning it off. If you want to talk, you either already have my phone number or can email me through the link at the bottom of this page.

Our misguided culture of cool

April 2, 2010, 10:30 am

People who know me might find it amusing, if not ironic, that I’m riffing on what’s cool. As the dad to two pre-teen daughters, I’m well aware that I’m not hip. But, perhaps with experience comes insight, so I offer my 2 cents on the subject anyway.

A Gem of a Week

February 5, 2007, 11:33 pm

Time compresses when you are in the flow. Musicians know this, as do athletes, and, yes, even programmers. For us, “time flies when you’re having fun” is more than just a saying. The last 10 days have not just flown by, they’ve soared by like a jumbo jet making up time en route to some far away destination.

Don’t Look Back

January 8, 2007, 11:23 pm

Driving to work this morning, Boston’s arena rock classic Don’t Look Back came on the radio. I broke into a grin, thinking about how much my life has changed in the last few weeks. I have so much to look forward to for 2007. The whole freelance thing got a big boost tonight. I think this is going to be a great year.

It’s a beautiful morning!

Starting today, I am master of my destiny. Captain of my ship of fate. Today, I launch Newfangled Telegraph and throw my lot out upon the entrepreneurial seas. Starting today, for better or worse, I will ride the waves of fortune (hopefully) and adventure (no doubt!) to distant shores not yet imagined.

October 5, 2006, 10:05 am

Over or under? It’s the age-old question when it comes to orientation of toilet paper rolls. For those who suffer from option paralysis when it comes time to replace the TP, fret no more! Clearwired has uncovered the definitive Truth on the subject.

Time to Build That Ark?

While the rest of the country suffers through an oppressive heat wave, Albuquerque has spent the last several weeks drenched by monsoon rains.
